Add Medication

Medication data, frequencies, and instructions will be entered in three steps. This page covers these steps.

Note: The details may vary depending on the version of the application you are using.

Step 1 – Medication’s Basic Information

At the first step, you add basic data about the medication.

Medication Type

First, select the type of medication. This will allow you to choose the appropriate unit for taking the medication in the next step. If there isn’t a related medication type, choose “Other.”

Note: You can’t change the medication type after taking or skipping a dose. In this case, delete the medication or edit the end date, then submit your medication again with the correct information.

Medication Name & Strength

Enter the full name and strength of the medication. Example: Acetaminophen 500mg

Step 2 – Medication’s Schedule

At this step, you can define the medication’s schedules in one or multiple timeframes. Timeframes cannot overlap.

Question: Why is there a multi-timeframe feature?

ِou don’t have to add a medication twice. Imagine these two scenarios:

  1. Sometimes, medication is prescribed in an increasing or decreasing manner. For example, to adapt to a new medicine, you take 1 tablet in the first week and then increase the dose to 2 tablets in the second week.
  2. Your healthcare provider prescribes a medication you have taken before. You should be able to add a new timeframe for your past medications.

The start date of a timeframe is required. It can be today, a past date, or a future date. Choosing the end date of the timeframe is optional.

Note: If you don’t select an end date, you can’t add another timeframe.

Frequency

By setting the frequency and time, you determine when you want to receive reminders, and by setting the dose and unit, you specify how much medication to take. This feature is designed to accommodate a wide range of regimens effectively, which can make it seem a bit complex.

Note: In many cases, you can add multiple times for taking the medication.

Daily tab

This tab includes various daily and hourly schedules.

Daily

Many medications need to be taken at specific times each day. For example, if you need to take your multivitamins daily with lunch, select this option and set the time to 12:00 PM or whenever you typically have lunch.

Every other day

Taking your medication every other day means you take it today, skip tomorrow, take it again the day after tomorrow, and continue this pattern.

Days interval

Sometimes you have to take medication, let’s say, every 3 days.

On a recurring cycle

Sometimes you have to take the medication for 3 days, then take a break for 2 days, and repeat this cycle.

Hours interval

Many medications, especially for acute health conditions, need to be taken at hourly intervals, such as every 8 hours. When you select “Hours Interval,” you can set the starting hour for the medication.

Please note that you can define some schedules in different ways. For example, taking a medication every 8 hours starting at 08:00 could be defined as:

  1. Daily, at 08:00, 16:00, 00:00
  2. Hours Interval, every 8 hours, starting at 08:00

Weekly tab

The most common schedule in the weekly tab is likely to be “Every Week.” We have included other frequencies for more specific or less common cases.

Every Week

For taking medication on specific days of each week.

Every other week

For taking medication on specific days every other week. For example, you take the medication on Sunday of the first week, skip the next week, and continue this pattern.

Weeks interval

For taking medication on specific days every X weeks.

On a recurring cycle

For taking medication on specific days of a week for X weeks, then having a break for Y weeks, and repeating this pattern.

Monthly

The most common schedule in the monthly tab is likely to be “Every Month.” We have included other frequencies for more specific or less common cases.

Note: If you choose 29,30, and 31st of the month, we will remind you on the last day of the month that doesn’t have these days.

Every Month

For taking medication on selected days each month.

Every other month

For taking medication on selected days every two months.

Month intervals

For taking medication on selected days every X months.

On a recurring cycle

For X months on selected days, followed by a break for Y months, and repeating this pattern.

Other

As needed

In some cases, healthcare providers prescribe medication “As needed.” For example, taking Acetaminophen when you have a headache. The application doesn’t show any reminders for this type of medication, but you can log when you take it to track your medication history.

When you choose this option, the input for entering time will be removed from the timeframe card.

Custom

Sometimes, a medication is prescribed to be taken on specific days of the calendar for a limited timeframe. You can select the specific days on the calendar for this schedule.

Time, Dose, Unit

After specifying the frequency, you can add one or more records for time, dose, and unit for the medication. Based on the medication type chosen in the previous step, you can select the appropriate unit or define your own unit. Selecting a unit sets it as the default for subsequent rows, but you can modify it as needed.

Note: If you choose As Needed, you can’t see this option.

Note: If you choose Hourly Intervals, you can just add Start Time.

Step 3 – Medication’s Instructions

In the third step, the medication is saved and the schedules are set. Now, you can add additional information about this medication.

Permissions

When you add your first medication, in most cases, the application requires two crucial permissions: to show you full-page alarms and to run in the background. These permissions are necessary for the app to work properly.

Schedule

In this section, you can preview the reminders based on the schedule defined in the previous step. If there’s an issue with the preview, you can go back and revise the settings accordingly.

Add photo & Video

If you’re setting the app for your parents or an elderly user, you can attach a photo and video of the medication to help them take the right one.

Add prescribed instructions for taking this medication, if necessary. For example:

  • Take before a meal
  • Take with a meal
  • Take after a meal
  • Take 30 minutes before breakfast
  • Take with water only
  • Do not take with orange juice

Color Code

You can choose a color code to specify the color of a medication, the color of a tag attached to the medication box, or to indicate what the medication is prescribed for, etc.

Complete or Add a New Medication

By tapping on Complete, the settings added in this step will be saved, and you will be redirected to the Calendar tab. If you’re adding your first medication, you will be asked for notification permission. The application requires this permission to send you notifications.
